@J_R_Fitzpatrick • @OSCAARRacing • PtboSpeedway • AYR, Ont. (July 30, 2015) – JR Fitzpatrick roars back to full speed this Saturday when the OSCAAR Dickies Super Late Model tour resumes at Peterborough Speedway's Chase for the Colours.
Fitzpatrick enters the event with high expectations for his Meineke Car Care/Transaxle Heavy Truck Parts No.84 at one of his favourite Ontario tracks.
"I love Peterborough. I've always run well there. It's a fast, tight little bullring where you can get run people clean if your car is working well," said Fitzpatrick of the track dubbed Canada's Toughest 1/3-mile oval. "You really have to make sure you have your car setup where you can drive under people coming out of turn two. That's really the only place where you can pass."
Last weekend's tour event at Sauble Speedway was cut short after just three laps when a major incident destroyed the catch fence on the frontstretch. Fitzpatrick is especially eager to get back in the seat after driving "the best car he's ever had" at Sauble, where he claimed a heat race win.
"We've tried a lot of stuff this year. We thew something crazy at it at Sauble with a new spring and shock package. We just kind of winged it and it was amazing," said Fitzpatrick. "It's the first time I'm not changing anything because I think it's going to be a really good baseline for Peterborough."
Fitzpatrick continues to have Crate motor power in his No.84 and believes it will work to his advantage on the tight confines of one of Ontario's most storied racetracks. There's added incentive on the line as well. The top two finishers in Saturday's event are guaranteed front row starters for the Autumn Colours Classic in October.
"I'd absolutely love to start on the pole for Autumn Colours," said Fitzpatrick. "Having this Crate motor, I think it's going to be a real rocket once we get there on Saturday."
