@11teamturner19 • (August 4, 2015) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – The Team Turner Racing Sprint Car drivers followed a busy stretch of three races in five nights with a rare weekend off. Now they're ready to get back at it, with races scheduled at three different tracks this weekend.
JULY 24 - OHSWEKEN
The hectic period began with Autograph Night & Christmas In July at Ohsweken Speedway. Cory and Ryan both finished well enough in their heat races to qualify for the redraw for A-Feature starting positions. Cory drew the fifth starting position for the A-Feature, while Ryan drew seventh, and Jamie started 10th.
"I started fifth in the feature and quickly advanced into the fourth position which is where I ran most of the night," Cory said. "My Brother started seventh and also quickly advanced to the fifth position. He ran there most of the night as well. My dad struggled with his car and finished 10th on one of the slickest tracks we had seen all year. My brother and I were able to finish fifth and fourth respectively in the A-Main - both our career best finishes at Ohsweken! We were really happy with our cars. Anytime we can put all three cars in the top 10, it's a great night!"
JULY 27 - OHSWEKEN
Jamie, Cory, and Ryan were back at Ohsweken Speedway on Monday night for the annual Northern Summer Nationals event. An increased purse for the special event drew some out of town teams, but it was still a full-points event for Ohsweken's Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car teams.
"Monday night we were greeted by an even tougher field of cars," Cory said. "In the heat races my brother and my dad didn't have the best runs, which forced them to start near the tail of the field for the A-Main. I started third in my heat race and battled for the entire race, but ended up coming home in fourth. I was all over the third place car, but I just couldn't find a way to get past him. Had I finished third I believe I would have made the redraw - instead I lined up 10th for the Feature."
"In the feature it was again by far the slickest track we had seen all year!" Cory noted. "I drove from 10th to seventh and had the fifth and sixth place cars in my sights, so I was pretty happy. My dad had a good car, but he got lapped early and ended up finishing 11th. My brother definitely missed the setup. He finished 15th."
JULY 28 - OHSWEKEN
Jamie, Cory, and Ryan were among a handful of local drivers who brought knives to a gunfight when they attempted to qualify for the World of Outlaws 410 Sprint Car series Six Nations Showdown event with their 360 cubic inch engines. Jamie was 20th fastest in time trials out of the 30 entrants, while Cory was 25th, and Ryan was 26th. Jamie was able to move up in his heat race and gain a transfer directly to the A-Feature, while Cory and Ryan were forced to run the B-Main.
"I didn't get such a great start in the B-Main and lost a few spots," Cory said. "I regained most of them and closed in on the last transfer spot, but it was too little too late and I was left on the outside looking in for the A-Main.
"My brother had a great run in the B-Main and drove from eithth to fifth to make his first World of Outlaws A-Main in his very first attempt. He was beyond ecstatic, and it was a great night being able to put two out of our three our cars in the A-Main!"
Both Jamie and Ryan made forward progress early in the 30 lap A-Feature, but decided to park their cars to keep from interfering with the leaders.
Following the special weeknight events, Team Turner had the Civic Holiday weekend off from racing, but did take Cory's #19 to KT Tobacco's Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday. The team had a good time interacting with their fans at the event, and look forward to seeing them again at the race track!
