@PtboSpeedway • It's been a busy month of action at Canada's Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval.
Peterborough Speedway's Hot August Night Racing Series made headlines with every wave of the Great Canadian RV green flag. From back-to-back first time Mini Stock feature wins by Kevin Strutt and Brandon Hannah on August 1 and 8 respectively. Consecutive Late Model victories by Rick Walt – including the rescheduled Chase for the Colours event – turned heads; as did a $1,000 INEX Ontario Legends triumph by Nicholas Ledson and an impressive second place run by former Mini Stock driver Brandt Graham in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series.
Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says that even with a show remaining in the month – Saturday, August 29th – the August events have been an impressive part of the calendar.
"We're in the family entertainment business and our product is stock car racing," said Josiasse. "Once we get someone through the main gates, our goal is to bring them back over and over again throughout the year. It's all about momentum; not just on the race track, but in everything we do. The drivers in every division are doing all they can to clinch the 2015 point championship and that helps provide the high level of excitement that's needed to build our brand."
The Saturday, August 29th program includes the hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions. Also on the show will be the INEX Ontario Legends and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, with King of the Hill featuring head-to-head spectator racing at intermission. Pit gates will open at 3:00, with the main grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and the night's first green flag at 6:00.
Looking ahead on the calendar, the Championship Clash is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th. The OSCAAR Super Late Models will be on hand to run a 50 lap 'A' main as part of a night of racing that will determine the title-holders in the 4Fun, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car and Late Model classes at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.
