@OSCAARRacing • (October 25, 2015)- Checkers or wreckers – that was the theme of the season for Jamie Bound.
After winning the 2014 Hurricane Midget Championship, Bound elected to run a partial schedule for 2015, running nine of events. In nine of those events, Bound was able to find his way to victory lane on seven different occasions.
It seemed last year that Bound found some magic at Sunset Speedway as he was a familiar sight in victory lane during the 2014 Hurricane Midget season. That was something that translated over to 2015, as Bound had the dominant car on each of the four race nights. Notably, he would only go to victory lane on two of the occasions.
Starting off the season in May, the driver of the No. 83 Skelton Truck Lines, Weatherill Performance Parts, R.P. Oil, Competition Systems and Pronto Automotive Stouffville Midget would lead the way to a dominating victory with no one set to challenge. Returning in June, he looked to be en route to doing the same thing, though the left front wheel would break off at lap 12, resulting in a 17th place finish.
Looking for redemption, the Uxbridge, Ontario native returned to Sunset Speedway in July, and led the majority of the laps en route to scoring the victory. In the final event at Sunset Speedway in September, Bound was looking to do the same, taking the lead on lap three. However, a problem going into turn one would sideline Bound, resulting in another DNF.
Amongst the wins at Sunset, Bound was able to pick up a win at Sauble Speedway after taking the lead from his brother Jody on lap two. There was also a notable win at Flamboro Speedway, after taking the lead from his brother once again, this time on lap 14.
Though for Bound, the track that stood out in 2015 was Peterborough Speedway. Three events run at the patch, three victories for Bound.
He would score the victory on July 18 after taking the lead late in the race, followed by another victory a month later in the Chase for the Colours event. Virtue of the Chase victory, Bound was able to start from the pole for the Autumn Colours Classic in October.
Starting from the pole, though, he wouldn't lead the early laps as he slipped back into second behind his brother Jody. It seemed that Jody had the advantage, though slicing and dicing through lap traffic, Jamie was able to close the advantage. In what will possibly go down as one of the most exciting Midget features of all-time and the biggest of the season, Jamie was able to make the pass on Jody on the last lap to score the victory.
With multiple trips to victory lane, Jamie Bound certainly had a season to remember and proved that even scaling his schedule back, he's still one to watch.
