@PtboSpeedway • Peterborough, ON- For the second consecutive year, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – gave drivers from a variety of different divisions the chance to experience the excitement of open wheeled racing with the 'Test a Modified Day' – Saturday, June 13th – at Peterborough Speedway.
Using the #95 machine of 2014 series champion Robert Warnes as "the rabbit", close to a dozen drivers took to the venue known as Canada's Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval for a few laps in one of the popular pieces. The cars were detuned by using a lower rpm chip in the MSD rev limiters to make sure participants didn't step too far outside their comfort zone.
Richard Warnes, Randy Hollingsworth and Bill Pickford, who make up the team of OMRS officials and also race in the series were on hand to tutor drivers before they took to the track. Warnes says the day was an unqualified success.
"We were very pleased with the results," admitted an enthusiastic Warnes. "One of the biggest issues we experienced was the disappointment of having to bring a group of drivers off the track. Even when they were lined up in the staging area, you could tell how excited everyone was to get out there for a few laps."
While everyone had a positive reaction to the chance to test some Ontario Modifieds Racing Series equipment, Richard Warnes says the next step that competitors like Brandon Feeney, Andrew Massey, Cody Fenton, Sean Kennedy and Matthew Vanderbelt from the track's 4Fun division or Steve McNevin, Donovan Price and Brad Lavalle from the Mini Stock ranks or John 'Crash' Meyers and Kevin Nicol who made the trek from Hamilton and Alex Earnshaw will be up to the drivers themselves.
The OMRS development program – in conjunction with Peterborough Speedway – will assist in the transition, but the process will require a lot of hard work along the way.
"Our goal is to continue building on what fans and race teams have discovered to be a very popular brand," said Warnes. "We're looking to take the series to the next level, with more teams and an expanded schedule of events over the next few years. Events like our test session will take us in the right direction."
The next on-track action for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series is Saturday, June 27th at Flamboro Speedway and Saturday, July 4th at Peterborough Speedway.
