Fitzpatrick Earns Strong Second At Peterborough

@J_R_Fitzpatrick • @OSCAARRacing • AYR, Ont. (August 3, 2015) – JR Fitzpatrick earned his best finish of the season on Saturday night, a second-place tally, with the OSCAAR Dickies Outlaw Super Late Models presented by London Recreational Racing at Peterborough Speedway.

Saturday's Chase for the Colours event gave the top-two finishers the front row starting positions for the prestigious Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough in October.

The Ayr, Ont. pilot started third for the 50-lap main event after winning the team's first heat and earning a top-five in the other. Fitzpatrick quickly showed he would be a dominant force come feature time.

"We changed a few things at Peterborough, but very minor," said Fitzpatrick of the team's setup carried over from Sauble one week ago.

After taking the lead from Glenn Watson in the opening 10 laps, Fitzpatrick began to methodically pass lapped cars. The No.84 Meineke Car Care/ Transaxle Parts Pontiac lapped all but second-place runner Kevin Cornelius when a caution came out in the final 10 laps.

On the ensuing restart, Fitzpatrick's battery turned off and worked intermittently until the conclusion of the race, handing the lead to Cornelius. On the final lap, Fitzpatrick pulled under Cornelius for the lead, but the battery quit and cut power on the final corner, handing the win to the No.17.

"It was a rocket. It's frustrating because I had the pole for Autumn Colours and it slipped between my fingers because of the little battery I have," Fitzpatrick said. "I might put a bigger battery in now so I don't have to worry about it."

The series now shifts back to Sunset Speedway on Saturday, August 22 for the seventh round of the 2015 season. Fitzpatrick believes he has the car working at its best. Nonetheless, the team will use the next three weeks to test at the Innisfil-area track.

"We just have to make sure we can get through the ends like we have been the last couple of weeks. I'm confident, no doubt. We were the class of the field at Peterborough," Fitzpatrick added.
