Cornelius, McLean and Bound Feature Winners at Peterborough Speedway:

@OSCAARRacing • Peterborough, ON (August 3, 2015)-  Everyone at OSCAAR would like to take this opportunity to pass along our condolences to the Pettit family and to Derrick Tiemersma and his team.

Simon was a great supporter of his team and loved racing and could always be found at the track with a smile on his face. Simon's sudden passing has left a huge void in racing and with his many friends at the track.  Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone, as we mourn the loss of a great man.

Dickies / London Recreational Racing Outlaw Action:  The Outlaws were ready to return to action this past weekend at Peterborough Speedway for The Chase for the Colours.  Every team knows the advantage of coming into the final event having the top two spots secured in the feature event.

Qualifying action would start the evening and the first ten lap heat race would go to the #29 of Ryan Kimball, who was subbing for Sean Grosman. The #84 of JR Fitzpatrick would pick up heat race #2 with Mike Beyore returning to racing and scoring the win in heat #3 of the night. The final heat race would belong to the #17 of Kevin Cornelius who was looking to shake the bad luck monkey off his back that he has every time he races at Peterborough.

The 50 lap feature event would be lead to the green by the #22 of Glenn Watson and the #47m of Brent McLean. It would only take to lap three for the #84 of Fitzpatrick to grab the lead from Watson and from there Fitzpatrick set sail. It seemed nothing was going to stop Fitzpatrick from grabbing his first feature win as at times he built up a half track lead on the #17 of Cornelius and the #b10 of Balson.

But like the say it not over till it's over, suddenly Fitzpatrick car slowed and then refired allowing the field to catch him

On lap 43 of 50 Cornelius made his move and took over the top spot.  A red flag on lap 47 which saw Mike Beyore in his #54 take a hard hit into the turn 1 wall. Thankfully Mike was able to walk away but the car suffered major damage and was done for the night.

That set up a three lap shoot out to the finish and the #17 and #84 went at it giving the fans the finish they all wanted to see. Coming out of turn two on the final lap the #84 of Fitzpatrick made a run up the inside of the #17 and the two were side by side down the back stretch. Coming to the checkers it was the #17 of Cornelius keeping his season feature win average at 100% by edging the #84 of Fitzpartick by half a car length.  The best seat in the house belonged to the #b10 of Kelly Balson as he recorded yet another top podium finish at the end of the feature.

Rounding out the top five in the feature  where the #29 of Ryan Kimball and the #22 of Glenn Watson.

This has locked the #17 of Kevin Cornelius and the #84 of JR Fitzpatrick on the front row for the 50 lap season ending Autumn Colours Classic.

Dickies / London Recreational Racing Feature finish:  1st #17 Kevin Cornelius, 2nd #84 JR Fitzpatrick, 3rd #b10 Kelly Balson, 4th#29 Ryan Kimball, 5th #22 Glenn Watson, 6th #39 Shane Gowan, 7th #16 Robert Bickle , 8th #47m Brent McLean, 9th #54 Mike Beyore, 10th #82 Matt Pleil (sub for Corey Jones)

The HOOSIER Mods:  The OSCAAR Mods made their one and only stop at Peterborough Speedway prior to the Chase for the Colours on Saturday. The fast 1/3 mile oval always provides some great open wheel action for the OSCAAR fans.

Several teams had long weeks in the garage and in some cases the emergency room in order to compete on the weekend. The never give up attitude paid off for the three-time defending HOOSIER Mod Champion as Gary McLean's crew spent hours in the garage, while Gary tended to his broken right hand. But nothing was going to stop the #8 as he picked up the 30 lap feature win over home town favorite #63 John Baker JR. The two had a couple of intense feature restarts and I have a feeling that excitement is going to carry over to The Autumn Colours Classic for the 50 lap feature event to determine the 2015 Champion.

Preliminary action would see the #8 of Gary McLean the first to celebrate in victory lane with the win in heat race #1. Another home town favorite #79h Cory Horner would make his fans happy with the win in heat race #2 on the night. The #8 of McLean let everyone know in heat race three he was the one to beat by picking up his second win of the night. The final checker flag in heat race competition would go to the #21 of Chris Milwain, making only his third start of the 2015 season.

The of the HOOSIER Mod rookies would lead the field to green with the #12 of David Balych and the #20 of Mike Hearty  showing the way. The #12 of Balych would hold the top spot till lap 4 when the #63 of John Baker would take over command.  The #63 had a rearview mirror full of the familiar #8 of McLean who would make his move on lap eight for the lead and never look back. A few cautions for single car spins would slow the field but no one was going to deny McLean the victory. As the checker flag waved the #8 and #63 would be followed by the #77 of Chad Strawn in third with #47 Brian McLean in fourth and rounding out the top five was the #79h of Cory Horner.

The HOOSIER Mods have a much needed two week break before returning to action at Sunset Speedway as part of the Gowland Memorial Event.

The Midas of Orangeville Midgets : The 2015 season would be the first time that the Midgets would be a part of the Chase for the Colours. There probably isn't a division that competes at Autumn Colours where the security of being locked in means more.

The midgets run a one day show, and with the fields of cars each week the #83 of Jamie Bound and the #48 of Brian Woodland are going to be able to sleep just a little better leading up to that event.  The past few events have seen the #83 of Bound the car to beat when it comes time for feature action. The question was can anyone put an end to his dominance.

Heat race action would start the nights events with a first time winner the #57 James Stanley picking up his first ever OSCAAR Midget win. Jamie Bound and his #83 would take the victory in heat number 2, with the #62 of Rob McCall taking the checkers in heat number three. Jessica James would take the final heat race win in dominating fashion and appeared to be an early prerace favorite for the feature win.

With 22 Midas Midgets set to take the green for 25 laps being led by the #5 of Jody Bound and the #85 of Rob Summers  it didn't take long for the action to start.  Current point leader #5 of Jody Bound would lead the early laps until making contact with a lapped car sending him to the rear for the restart. This handed the lead over to #83 of Jody Bound with the #2 of Jessica James close behind.  The #2 of James would make a self admitted  mistake that took her out of the race which allowed the #48 of Brian Woodland to move into the second place. The #48 ended the Sauble event on his roof and this week Brian had to out run his brother #84 Richard Woodland to secure his second place finish.

When the checker flag waved it was the #83 of Bound, followed by the #48 of Woodland and the #84 of Richard Woodland . Rounding out the top five where the #53 of Dave Bradley in fourth and the #62 of Rob McCall in fifth.

The Midas Midgets will be enjoying a much needed week off before heading to Grand Bend Speedway in two weeks.
