@NewHumberstone • @SuperDIRTcar • PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO (September 8, 2015)- The Humberstone Speedway will be welcoming in the cars and the stars of the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series this coming Sunday night for the 22nd running of the Trevor Wilkens Memorial.
Trevor was a rising star in the racing ranks in the Niagara Region until he succumbed to cancer. The Wilkens family along with the Cosco family honors Trevor and this race is in his memory. Trevor raced for the late Pete Cosco during his career.
Before coming to Humberstone on Sunday, the Series will be running at Ransomville on Friday and Merrittville on Saturday night for their annual trip through the Niagara Region. Mathieu Desjardins from Sorel, Quebec comes into this race not only as the defending race winner, but also the winner of the Series race at Cornwall Motor Speedway last Sunday night.
Desjardins and other top drivers on the tour will be racing against the best of the best that the Niagara Region has to offer, including three time divisional champion Gary Lindberg of Ridgeway, Ontario, Brad Rouse of St. Catharines, Ontario and Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, Ontario. Lindberg, Rouse and McPherson have all graced Humberstone victory lane in 2015 and all three are wanting to defend home turf against the tour invaders.
As part of the Trevor Wilkens Memorial, The Street Stock, Mini Stock and Pro 4 Truck championship chases will come to a close. Dennis Lunger Jr captured the RUSH Late Model championship last Sunday night and Gary Lindberg won his third consecutive Sportsman title two weeks ago.
