Fitzpatrick’s Night Ends Early at Delaware; Regroups For Sauble

@OSCAARRacing • AYR, ON (July 15, 2015) – JR Fitzpatrick's inaugural OSCAAR Super Late Model season continued Friday, July 10 at Delaware Speedway. The Ayr, Ont. driver's return appearance to his former home track did not go perfectly according to plan.

Fitzpatrick missed first practice, but quickly put the obstacle behind him in preliminary action.

"In practice we were really fast and happy with the car. In the two heats races I pulled forward and finished third in both heats," said Fitzpatrick.

The Meineke Car Care/Transaxle Parts No.84 lined up fifth for the 50-lap main event and quickly started to move forward.

"I was up to third and (Jesse) Kennedy got in to the No.82 (Corey Jones) and I went high to miss it and I got passed and went back to seventh."

Fitzpatrick started to move forward again, but on lap 10, the night went awry for good.

"I was running with (Kevin) Cornelius and he got loose in front of me. I went to go around him and, it was just a racing deal, he corrected it and poked me in the left front. I hit the fence and broke my right-front," said Fitzpatrick.

While Fitzpatrick suffered a DNF, he was happy with the speed and handling on his McColl Racing Enterprises-built car.

"The car's so fast. At least I know we have good speed. Even with the crate engine, we were one of the quickest ones there," Fitzpatrick explained. "I thought we were going to be two or three tenths (of a second) off everybody, but we were one of the front runners, so I was pretty happy with it."

Fitzpatrick's teammate, Roy Passer, suffered a violent crash after the right front caliper locked up and exploded. It sent Passer in to the corner without brakes.

"There's nothing any of could have done or known before going to the race. It needs a new rear clip, but we can do that in-house," said Fitzpatrick, adding the No.27 will not return until the series' next date at Sunset.

Fitzpatrick shifts his focus to Sauble Speedway for the series' July 25 date at 'The Beach'. Fitzpatrick has virtually no experience at the track in a late model, but did build the foundation for his racing career at the tight bullring.

"That's where I first started in junior late models and I won a super stock race there," explained Fitzpatrick. "This will be one of the few tracks that I haven't tested this car at, so it should be interesting. The way the car is right now, I'm really confident we're going to have a fast piece."
